Actress, Dorothy Dandridge


Dorothy Dandridge was a very beautiful, classy Black Actress & singer who started her singing career in the late 1930s performing at the Cotton Club and on many other Black entertainment stages.   During the 1940s and throughout the late 1950s, Dandridge starred in many films, one included Sidney Poitier in Gerhwin’s Porgy and Bess and another with Harry Belafonte in Carmen Jones.

Dorothy Dandridge died September 8, 1965.  Actress Halle Berry, gave tribute to the talented, renowned beauty by portraying Dandridge in the (1999) film titled, Introducing Dorothy Dandridge.

Sixteen tracks from the singer-actress. None of these tracks were released during her lifetime since she was marketed as an actress only. Some tracks have a Big Band while most of them are with the Oscar Peterson Trio. If you like your Jazz vocals on the sultry side then this one is for you.
